Mello Mistri’s passion for music began at just six years old, playing music at family parties every Saturday night. Those early experiences introduced him to vinyl records, turntables, speakers, and the unique atmosphere that music could create.

After many years of being an avid listener to radio broadcasters, Mello decided to take the plunge and become a presenter himself, joining Unique Radio.

His love of radio and reggae music goes back to the days of Radio London, listening to Steve Barnard and later Tony Williams on Sunday afternoons. He also remembers the impact of David Rodigan on Capital Radio, which helped bring reggae music to a wider radio audience.

In those days, music lovers could walk into record shops with the name of a tune and leave with their favourite records. Shops such as Red Records in Balham became important places for discovering and buying music, with knowledgeable salesmen such as Ben from Randy’s Sound System.

Over the years, Mello has played at numerous clubs, parties and events. One of his proudest moments came when he was invited by both D’unes Sound System and Exodus Sound System to become their main DJ. Although he ultimately declined both offers, the invitations remain a memorable part of his musical journey.

Today, Mello continues to share his passion for music through his radio shows Soul Control and Late Night Blues, bringing his experience, knowledge and love of music to listeners.
